A coastal passage and a lake holiday are different products
Separate Poland's Baltic coast and bays from inland-lake sailing when selecting weather sources. For a coastal itinerary, distinguish the exposed stretch west of Hel, the Gulf of Gdańsk and the actual entrance or river approach. Western lagoons and their sea connections also need their own wind, water-level and navigation checks. A country page helps choose the right desk; it does not make all national waters one forecast zone or guarantee the same exposure throughout a holiday.
Named Baltic products, not a city forecast
The IMGW-PIB Baltic portal publishes synoptic marine forecasts and warnings for named Baltic sectors, with separate lagoon and hydrological products. Identify the sector crossed at the planned hour and read its UTC valid period. Open the warning as well as the forecast; an old search result may display an authentic but expired issue. Keep a second country's marine product where a cross-border leg requires it, instead of extending a Polish forecast beyond its coverage.
Exposed arrivals can control a coastal day
Before planning a harbour-to-harbour leg, inspect the arrival's exposure to the forecast wind and wave direction. A geographically close port is not automatically an available refuge in an onshore sea. Compare the offshore part, entrance and berth approach separately, and verify current chart and harbour information. A low-wind inland alternative cannot be substituted into a coastal sea-state assessment. Preserve the crew's limits and an option to wait before the exposed stretch.
Model waves and harbour observations are different evidence
IMGW's SWAN display provides significant-wave model information, not a guarantee of the highest wave or entrance passability. The issuer explicitly distinguishes automatically generated products from continuous forecaster verification. The Maritime Office's Hydro-Meteo page adds local observations, but automatic and manual stations have different update patterns and exposure. Record each station's time and measured variable; a sheltered Gdańsk wind value cannot establish conditions off an exposed cape.
Keep weather, navigation notices and season separate
Follow the official Maritime Office link to BHMW coastal/local navigational warnings and verify that the relevant notices are in force. For the western coast also use Szczecin's navigation-conditions page: a Gdańsk authority page does not cover every Polish entrance. Discovery links are not the active bulletin itself. In the colder season add ice, water-level and harbour-access checks. End the brief with a confirmed alternative, new-issue time and reasons to reconsider; this overview does not grant clearance to depart.

- Maritime Office link to Polish navigational warnings — Official authority page links to BHMW coastal/local warnings. This is a verified discovery link, not the active bulletin itself; follow through and check expiry. BHMW content was not readable in this audit.
- Maritime Office Szczecin navigation conditions and notices — Western Polish authority entry for active warnings, harbour-master notices and access/depth information, including Świnoujście and Szczecin Lagoon ports. Cancellation notices coexist with older notices; inspect status and boundaries. This is not a weather observation service.
