Marine weather services

Sailing Weather is being rebuilt as an independent resource for sailors who need to understand marine forecasts before a passage. The earlier website offered personalised forecasts and passage-planning help. Those historic services are not currently available from this new operation.

What you can use today

Our free guides explain a practical pre-departure workflow: identify the right forecast area, check official warnings, read the forecast issue time, compare wind and sea-state information, and look for recent observations. Start with the guides.

What a future briefing would need to include

  • Your route, intended departure time, expected speed and realistic diversion options.
  • Current forecasts and warnings from the relevant national weather services, with timestamps and source links.
  • Wind, gusts, waves, visibility and any local hazards across the whole route.
  • Clear uncertainty, an update schedule and a human review before any output is presented as expert advice.

We will not label an automated summary as an expert forecast. Until a service is actually launched, this page is an explanation of our approach—not a booking page or a promise of routing support.

Where to get current forecasts

Use the responsible national service for your sailing area. For example, NOAA/NWS Marine Weather provides US coastal, offshore and high-seas products, including low-bandwidth text formats. The UK Met Office guide explains marine forecast terminology and products. Coverage and warnings vary by region.
