Gulf of Naples and island approaches

Distinguish mainland departure, Procida/Ischia and Capri-facing legs.

Forecast sectors and coverage

Use the relevant Tyrrhenian Meteomar product and gale information for the route. A Naples city forecast is land-oriented context, not a substitute for the sea-area bulletin or island approach assessment.

Weather-sensitive legs

Separate the gulf crossing, island lee and open southern exposure. Compare the forecast direction with the destination approach and the return leg; shelter is not a permanent attribute of an island.

Observations, sea state and reassessment

Inspect sea-state valid time, swell direction and relevant recent observations where available. The nearest marina reading cannot confirm the sea on the far side of the gulf.

Worked planning scenario — not a live forecast

For Procida–Capri or a mainland round trip, compare arrival and return conditions under two departure options. If the route continues beyond the gulf, add the exposed coast as another task rather than keeping the same point forecast.

Official products by task

Sector names help you locate the issuing product; they are not an automatic route-coverage match. Open the current issue and check boundaries, issue time and validity. This page does not display current warnings; an unavailable product does not mean no hazard.

Build your passage brief

Bring your route, leg timings, vessel and crew profile, checked sources and reassessment triggers into the brief. Personal AI analysis and expert review are available to invited closed-test participants; a port page does not extend the calculation service’s coverage.

Procida, Ischia and Capri are distinct legs

A mainland–Procida day and a continuation toward Capri differ in open-water exposure and arrival orientation. Enter both the gulf crossing and any island-facing approach at their actual ETAs. Choose the current Tyrrhenian marine text in Meteomar and inspect Avviso di Burrasca separately; a Naples land forecast cannot establish the sea beyond the marina or the next island cape.

An afternoon option needs a return check

Evaluate a proposed later departure at the destination and the return hour, not only at the berth. A daytime coastal-wind assumption should be checked against the actual synopsis; weather changes or thunderstorms can invalidate a simple morning/afternoon pattern. Inspect the wave direction reaching the arrival side. The lee of one island is not an observation of conditions at another, and flatter local water does not prove that swell has disappeared.

Preserve a shorter island circuit

Before adding another island, refresh the source set and revised approach time. Compare finishing the day at the earlier independently checked stop with completing the longer circuit. Record which warning, forecast turn or delayed arrival would trigger that change. Harbour access, ferry traffic, moorings and anchoring permissions require current local information; this weather page does not rank berths or certify an approach.
