Short island hops around the Virgin Islands can alternate between lee water and exposed passages. A Tortola or St Thomas point forecast is not enough to describe Anegada Passage, the Atlantic side or the next anchorage.

Use the NWS San Juan marine page for Puerto Rico and USVI forecast zones, including waters toward Anegada and Virgin Gorda, and the NHC Caribbean offshore zones for the broader leg. In BVI waters also check the current local authority bulletin; US zones do not cover every BVI bay. For tropical risk use the NHC.
Check before a passage
- Match the passage and anchorage to their actual exposure, not the overall island group.
- Check the Atlantic swell and squall forecast separately from the average trade wind.
- Record the next advisory time and a protected alternative if an anchorage becomes untenable.
